Catching up with Reps & Recovery ‘Did that really happen’

The big moment has arrived… The CAMBRIDGE HALF MARATHON! Liv & myself have been training for this since the new year, after competing in the MK half marathon in December. We had a month off running before starting the training programme to target a NEW PB of under 2hrs 15mins. Liv has done amazingly well to develop her running in such a short time and inbetween such a busy work/life schedule. But the real question is…… Did we beat our PB?

The Cambridge half marathon was a really well organised event, roads were closed off, there were so many volunteers helping out, not just to make sure the event went ahead but also to help cheer everyone on. The course was also very well planned out.

It was a slightly cold but lovely sunny day on the sunday for the half marathon, I think there was almost 14,000 people running that day for themselves but also for charties. The support was out of this world from family, friends and even just randoms catching your name on your top and cheering you on.

Our target for this race was to beat 2hrs 15mins, this was a PB set in MK which was a nice route but at the same time had very narrow paths, which didn’t allow us to really push on. But we knew Cambridge was very flat and had road closues which would suggest the track would be road width instead of narrow paths like MK.

So what happened….. well…… WE SMASHED IT! Liv did amazing to not only achieve a NEW PB of 2hrs 8mins but also really focus on some key points we had put in place for the race such as…
Pushing hard on the first section of the race to set a good bench mark.
Focusing on keeping between 10 – 9:45 min miles.
Staying hydrated and taking on regular sugar every mile.
Not letting the 8 mile mark effect our mind set.
Pushing on at the end to finish positive .
But most importantly focusing on the recovery straight away after, hydration, sugar and breathing.

It was an amazing day and we now can’t wait for Southend Half Marathon
